Washes are used for shadows and for the application of colors in layers. When applied over a basecoat, they enter into the folds and grooves of the model or figure, and instantly brings forth the features. They can also be mixed with the regular colors, or with various Mediums.

A wash is accomplished by using a large amount of solvent with little paint. AK washes consist of a high quality pigment and binder which allows the pigment to adhere to its support.
