| This new variant of the 38(t), the STARR was introduced to simplify production of the original 38(t) Hetzer. It was decided to mass produce a tank without a revolving turret and to rigidly mount the recoilless 75mm Pak 39/1 L/48 gun in the front glacis plate of the hull. Every effort was made to ensure the maximum degree of simplicity, reliability, high mobility and robustness. Development started in December 1943. |
