| This series was inaugurated in 2009 with the set "Chosen Ground" and since 2011, Britain's has done a set that commemorates the corresponding 150th Anniversary year of the War. For 2013, Britain's commemorates the most pivotal event of that year, if not the War, Pickett's Charge at the Battle of Gettysburg. Keith Rocco's evocative painting, "Hell for Glory," captures the moment that General Garnett's brigade with the 18th Virginia begins to receive withering grape and canister from the Union artillery up on Cemetery Hill. The Brigade had just crossed the turnpike fence on Emmitsburg Road, when ordered to the double-quick, they immediately begin taking a savage fire that decimates the ranks and kills Garnett. A handful of men make it to the wall at the copse of trees and go over with General Armistead. Half the brigade of 1,853 men is lost. And then the tide turns, inexorably back as the sun begins to set on the battlefield. |
